Ordering
Is the sod cut fresh when I order?
How do I place an order?
You can order online by entering your ZIP code on our sod page to see available varieties in your area. You can also call us at 407-892-2024 Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and our team will help you through the process.
How do I determine how much sod I need?
Measure the length and width of your lawn area in feet and multiply them together to get square footage. For example, a 30-foot by 40-foot lawn is 1,200 square feet. We recommend ordering 7–10% more than your measurement to account for cuts, edges, and waste. Our pallets cover 400 square feet each, so divide your total square footage by 400 and round up to determine your pallet count. Use the calculator on our homepage for an easy estimate.
How many square feet are on a pallet?
Our St. Augustine sod pallets cover 400 square feet each. To find the number of pallets you need, divide your total square footage by 400 and round up to the nearest whole number.
Is there a minimum order size?
Please contact us at 407-892-2024 or info@SunriseSod.com to discuss your order size and confirm minimum order requirements for your area.
Is there a warranty on sod deliveries?
We do not offer a warranty on sod once it is delivered and offloaded. Sod is a living product that requires immediate care after delivery. For the best results, lay the sod the same day it arrives and begin watering immediately. Sod left on a pallet in Florida heat can deteriorate quickly. Our team is happy to walk you through proper installation and watering steps before your delivery.

Sod Varieties
What sod varieties do you carry?
We carry four Florida sod varieties: St. Augustine, Floratam (a St. Augustine variety), Zoysia, and Bahia. See our Sod Varieties page for detailed descriptions, sun and maintenance requirements, and a side-by-side comparison.
How do I choose the right type of sod?
The right variety depends on your sun exposure, soil type, how much maintenance you want to do, and your budget. St. Augustine and Floratam are great for most Florida residential lawns. Zoysia is premium and low-maintenance. Bahia is the most economical and works well in sandy soils with minimal water. See our full buying guide or call us and we’ll talk through your specific yard.
What is the best sod for shade in Florida?
For shaded areas, St. Augustine (particularly Seville or Palmetto varieties) and Zoysia offer the best shade tolerance of our available options. Floratam and Bahia prefer full sun and will struggle under heavy tree cover. If you have significant shade, give us a call and we can help you find the best option for your specific situation.
What sod is best for a budget?
Bahia is typically the most economical option and requires the least in ongoing maintenance costs (fertilizer, water, mowing frequency). It’s a practical choice for large areas, slopes, or anyone looking for a low-input lawn.
Installation & Care
When should I lay the sod after delivery?
Install the sod the same day it is delivered. Fresh-cut sod begins to deteriorate once it is harvested, especially in Florida’s heat. Leaving sod stacked on a pallet for more than a few hours — especially in the sun — can damage or kill it before it ever touches your soil. Begin watering immediately after laying.
How do I prepare my lawn before laying sod?
How long does it take for sod to root?
With proper watering, most Florida sod begins to establish roots within 10–14 days. You will know it has rooted when the sod resists gentle tugging. During this period, water daily (or twice daily in hot weather) and avoid heavy foot traffic. After roots are established, you can taper watering back to a normal schedule.
How much should I water new sod?
For the first two weeks, water your new sod at least once a day — morning is ideal. In Florida’s summer heat, you may need to water twice daily to keep the root zone moist. The goal is to keep the soil beneath the sod consistently damp but not saturated. After establishment, transition to a normal Florida watering schedule (typically 2–3 times per week).
Farm Pickup
Can I pick up sod directly from the farm?
Is there anything I should know before picking up?
Important: There is a tunnel at the entrance to our farm location with a clearance height of 12 feet 6 inches (12’6″). If you are sending a driver or using a third-party transport service, share this information with them in advance. Vehicles or trailers taller than 12’6″ cannot enter through the tunnel.
